Book of Psalm

The Bible’s Book of Psalms is considered a collection of poems.  These passages are often sung or chanted in Christian or Judaic religious practices. The Psalms are often described as “songs for the soul.” The word “Psalm” comes from the Psalter, which was an instrument used by David to play these hymn-like poems.
There are 150 Psalms; written by different authors, over 1,000 years ago. It is fascinating, and a true testament to the universal nature of these verses, that they are still regarded as one of the most widely-used books of the bible.
Psalms is the longest book of the Bible. Located in the New Testament, the book of Psalms is the most commonly quoted part of the Bible.  
The Psalms were written by many different people but each still carries a common theme: the role of God during the many difficult seasons of life. They cover joy and sadness, thanksgiving, and praise. The structure of the Psalms is artistic on its own; there are poetic parallels, and unique, creative uses of language.

The Book of Psalms cover the whole human experience, the good times and the bad, when faith is often challenged the most. With understanding of the peaks and valleys of life, the Psalms constantly draw the devout back to praising the Creator. The verses are deeply emotional and raw, and draw on life occurrences.
The Book of Psalms is divided into five books, each of which concludes with a doxology.  The doxology is final verse of praise and thanksgiving. The Book of Psalms is also categorized by theme. 
The Book of Psalms was written over a period of 1,000 spanning from the times of Moses to the time of Ezra. They were created and collected over a long period of time.
